Tons of them emerged already in Northern Virginia. The sound is still quite distant but it’s going to get louder... I am actually very excited about Brood X!!
Thanks for posting the photo.

you bet, Yfritz! yes, they cross across several states and are super interesting. here, in SW ohio is one of the bigger areas for outbreaks and it will get wild. i was here in 2004 for their last emergence and it was wall to wall cicadas. Will post more pics of this when it gets crazy.

I haven’t seen any in Western KY yet but my daughter did eat one a few years back (she was 11ish)...”just to see how it tasted”.🤢

Yikes! Too bad you can't post audio. Only once when I was a little kid was I near them and I still remember the racket! 😁

Ha T&T, that's exactly what my wife says. It is tough to avoid them though. It can be a wall of cicadas everywhere you walk, etc. depending upon the neighborhood. too funny kmwallace - i haven't "eaten" one but many do - i have had a few fly into my mouth. sk, you could probably make that cicada pie look and taste great! and melissa, you're right, the noise they make when billions of them are out and about is super loud.

I’ll be watching for your update. We do not have these here. I saw it on our Canadian news. They’re interesting and LOUD??

Oh yeah wifey - loud. They are underground for 17 years and emerge to procreate. In 4-6 weeks they die off or head back into the ground for 17 more years. DL you’re in DC yeah? Or PA? They are there as well, maybe not as thick. And camper WV is right in it. By end of June should be all gone with piles of them around the trees etc.

Hey brandy nice to see more Nati on the site. That is where I am as well. Yeah. Be my second. Not great but such a phenomenon that I am approaching it “as if” I were lucky. 😜

Well meta, I think frying them up and drowning them in chocolate might be the only way I could eat em.
