Before yesterday, I had never been to a baby shower. I lived in blissful ignorance of the hugely overwhelming amounts of crap one has to buy, know, and do to prepare for having a baby. I always knew that babies were expensive and high maintenence, but yesterday, I saw more baby gadgets than I even knew existed. Everyone was "oohing and ahhing" at the onesies, burping clothes, stuffed animals, blankies, pacifiers, booties, kid books and toys...and on and on...and all I could think was "Get me out of here!" I mean, one young mother who was there had carved, yes CARVED a stamp of the future baby's name, then made onsies and blankets with the stamp on them. She was like, "Oh yea, I carved that myself." And another girl who is due at the same time as the mother-to-be, had knitted a retro hat and matching booties shoes. I wanted to exclaim, "Who are you people? Martha Stewarts in training?" I mean, who has time to do this kind of stuff? Sigh. I came to feel even more sure that I do not want to have kids any time soon, and this realization made me pretty unhappy. I want to want to have kids. Sigh again.

Needless to say, I have learned that these types of stressful/annoying social situations combined with sugar coated almonds is a recipe for disaster. These buggers are the perfect stress food - they are crunchy, sweet, with the illusion of having something healthy in them. On the upside, my mom and I didn't succumb to picking up Taco Bell on the 2 hour car ride home, but when I logged in those almonds and saw that they were over 400 calories, it made me realize that some foods just aren't worth it, ya know? I won't beat myself up about it, but because of this food log, I am more informed for future incidents. Next time I go to a baby shower, I'm staying away from the nuts!
