"EXCUSES"

I'll start tomorrow...
The job is killing me..
The wife or husband smothers my will..
my kids.take all my time...
I am on the road how can I do what I know I should ?

Sound familiar...and you know there are so many more excuses..
at 64... I've used them all... but they are what they are...
a weakness in your resolve...

Fail to plan...plan to fail
Not that hard to understand...
So, a little knowledge from an old man...
I plan... for each day at home...
when I travel... I plan...
YEs, there is the vacation.. but not a vacation from a goal..
If you ditched your goal for anything...., you have no goal...
just a dream...

Like I said, I'm 64... you young bloods can bring it...
and I say this to motivate you..not to disparage you...
I am not unique... I am the norm that most can no longer see...at my age...

OK, I stated you must plan... so, a few examples...
The first picture is me in 2015... in Hanoi, Vietnam..
Yea was a vacation and a trip..
but what am I doing ? I arranged a visitor membership at a ym..in Hanoi.. and I don't speak Vietnamese... In the pic I am benching a warm up set of 245 pounds..
a warm up set..and I'm 64... Give me an excuse??? and I was bad out of shape then.. I hope to reach my former high of 525... and that was when I was 35..
and it was 15 reps...
am I so different than you... not at all... I just understand something you might not... your limits are determined by mind, body and spirit... Most have one, maybe two.. but it takes all 3... That is all...

Ya know, I came back from Vietnam..and was invited to a martial arts school to demonstrate and spar with higher level students... most 40 years my junior... knowledge is power... but daily training in any application is true power..
Humility is true mastery... I am not special... I have had some very, very remarkable teachers...3rd pic is only a few... wonder who can identify them...

as my primary teacher use to tell me... NO excuses.. o back and practice it 1000 times.. then come see me again...

That hurt. You’re totally right though. No more excuses and steppin’ up my game.

@indigo78 If it hurt, it is telling you something.. So, what might that be... you know.. Mastery of the self is the toughest thing anyone can do.. Excuses are everywhere...and anywhere when they are convenient... but, since you know this already..you have an advantage over other and over your own negative thoughts...Your goals are yours... you own them.. no one else can.. and no one else can make them true

Agree completely. Planning is key. No one can do this for me but me. Stepped up today & doubled my exercise time and made the family another healthy meal. I had spine surgery (anterior fusion) 4yrs ago and that’s when I went down hill. After joining fs and getting after it...I was wakeboarding this weekend & switchin’ it up. I never thought I’d do that again and it’s made me want more! Your story is so inspiring and you endured some of the most difficult injuries. You look amazing & have an amazing regiment. I see that prize, I want it and I’m going to get it! Thanks for the reality check! :)

I miss tae kwon do. I took it in my early 20's ...moo duk kwan, master Sok Ho Kang did my belt testing. my actual instructors were a married couple, Pam and Ted Siders. I enjoyed the classes so much.

Yes, today I'm committed. Benching 245! mind blowing! But, I guess if I don't quit I will eventually get there.

@Vickiauntmick I had the best teacher in the world in Moo Duk Kwan... Grandmaster Myung Kyu Kang.. (Goole him.. not enough space here).. but he was only one of many renowned teachers...in many disciplines.. I always sought out the best in my time... and my travels in that venue began in 1969...The teachers I had... were teachers then.. and I was young.. now they are legends and are both authors of books and subjects of books... I ain't ringin my own bell.. because my first teacher.. was Shunryu Suzuki Roshi... and his lesson to me was... no matter how skilled you become... you are and endless beginner.. He was followed by so many seminal teachers.. like Master Hung Loy, Sifu Herbert Luke, Mac V Sog Beret , Sal Aguleria, Grandmaster Richard Lee, Grandmaster Charles Gaylord, Grandmaster Byoung Yu,Grandmaster Myung Kyu Kang, Grandmaster Xing Pao, Yogi Bhajan, Siri Gian Singh... and many , many more..oogle any of them... I spent years with them all.. You take a path..and if you are serious... the teacher finds the student...

@adefwebserver Quitting is not an option... you know that.. and don't need me to tell you what you already know... Limitations are not set by others... they are set in our own mind an spirit.. Set the goal you wish... attain it... and set a higher goal... Everyone underestimates their true abilities...

I love post like this and why I enjoy my visits here. This is a fantastic thread full of positive motivation. My disappointment is that I thought all my excuses were original. BTW: I'll be 66 in October so I can relate...

@john 10251 Welcome to the party... the Iron party... There are no new excuses under the sun... and dudes of our age know that... and sometimes that becomes our new excuse... You got 2 years on me... but... you can still bring it if you want.. It's all up to you... nobody else... always has been... I once trained a guy in Martial arts.. He bean when he was 74... He was a participant and a survivor at the battle of Battan... I trained him for 4 years.. from a beginner to a 1st Dan Black Belt... Yet the whole time... I was the one that was learning...
