Hi Guys!

Really really busy at work. Inspection was supposed to be next week, and got moved back a week. Still way too busy from the time I get in, until the time I leave. Its good though.

I just thought about FS because of my Psych class "Psychology of Eating Disorders!" It is awesome! Mainly forums and chat rooms much like this with people just like you! One lady had gastric bypass, another thinks only his way is best and people should only eat paleo or else kill themselves, lol. So it is just like here!! Fear not, I am defending common sense there too, and expounding on the virtues of Twinkies and Mac & Cheese IN MODERATION ONLY! lol. Count them calories, and the rest will follow. Although my textbook may be making think I have an exercise disorder!

The teacher is a Phd in Psych, pretty, and liked my papers! Had a problem citing from APA with a Kindle, but even that was approved.

This weeks topic I wrote on was "Why BMI is an uncool tool" (I am paraphrasing). I will reprint this in its entirety.

---- MY ARTICLE ----

The reason why Body Mass Index (BMI) is not an accurate measure of obesity is simply because it relies on too few data points. Only height, weight, and sex are used to determine BMI which relies on a graph to determine obesity. BMI is also a very old indicator, having been created in 1871 by a Belgian mathmatician and astronomer (Abraham, 2008).

Muscular folks, either naturally occurring or people who body build, may be classified as obese even though their body fat percentage is low. Additionally it does not factor in body shapes (waist size), ethnicity, or other naturally occurring factors that could skew the results. This problem also presents itself for pre-menstrual girls as they have lower BMIs than girls who have menstruated (Abraham, 2008).

Hot for Teacher... I can hear the drums now... LOL!! Totally agree with you on BMI-outdated and inaccurate. Here's hoping that there are people in the medical/nutritional fields that agree with us and come up with a new and more precise measurement tool. Happy Hump Day, JP!

You're so crazy, JP. I guarantee you wouldn't want to be a prepubescent girl. Good job on your studies and work, work, work. Hope you get some play time soon.
