Lately I've been waking up hungry in the middle of the night. This is unusual for me, and I am really struggling with it. So far I've managed to keep from eating, but I hope this new trend goes away.

Weird. I remember when I was hungry and wanted to wait until certain time to eat I would eat almonds. Just in case u give in don’t forget always make the better choice 😋

Thanks Jessa. Bella, I'm drinking water same as usual, so I don't know. Last night I drank a cup of green tea and that helped.

Can you work in a snack that won't hinder your sleep and fit your meal plan before bedtime?

My mom wakes up in the middle of the night and has to eat because her blood sugar has dropped. Maybe try a high protein snack before bed?

Thanks for the suggestions Rosio and Erquiaga, I'll keep both in mind. After I drank the tea I went back to sleep and woke up just fine this morning.

I suppose you haven't changed the amount you eat or your dinner time (otherwise it wouldn't be weird that you are hungry at night). Then, you might change any of those and see what happens. Or, you might just accept the sensation of being hungry. In my opinion it's really not the big, unbearable monster we tend to believe. It normally goes away in a while. To help you endure those moments, it may be useful for you to know about the benefits of sleeping on an empty stomach. In summary, it helps repair your stomach and boost your microbiota, which in turn improves your immune system. When I feel hungry right before bed, or wake up and I feel hungry, it does not bother me at all, I feel that I am on the right track, good to feel hungry, drink water, will stop this hunger. I remember that in the morning I would stand on the scale and I would be proud of my effort

Safa, that is certainly one way to look at it. The problem for me is that, when I wake up hungry, I cannot go back to sleep. But, I believe I've found a solution; drinking a cup of green tea seems to help. Eve, Dr. Panda's research is very interesting, thanks for the information.

I am glad you found it interesting! I am very interested in circadian rhythms and, thanks to Dr. Panda’s book ( ”The Circadian Code”) I've adopted the practice of time restricted eating, with an early dinner and around 14 hours of fasting until breakfast.
