In these last three years, I tried some intermittent fasting to try to adjust to a lowered appetite (but not a much-lowered desire for food.) I did lose weight, but also returned to some of the disordered eating that had plagued me much of my life and that had escalated and led to a 40+ lb. weight gain in middle age. Somehow, I was able to navigate it all enough so that I did maintain that lower weight, but I did not feel happy about my eating. It felt like a struggle much of the time. Late last spring, after a rather strict program for other reasons, something snapped and I felt driven to overeat, gaining about eight pounds and returning to the weight I had dropped to on No S. I was not able return to No S, and have been bouncing around in my eating, but also maintaining that weight. which makes me think this is a weight my body is quite comfortable with. However, because I am a senior citizen now and have concerns about mental clarity and other aging issues, I feel a renewed commitment to aim at a food choices geared for a healthy brain, which means very little sugar and refined grain foods. I am aware this may not lead to weight loss, but I do believe it will increase my chances for health maintenance and possibly even improvement. I just finished a 5-day program to induce autophagy and other beneficial changes. I've done this several times over the years. I admit that often afterwards, the pendulum will swing and I get a little crazy with my eating. I think I can see the food thoughts for what they are better now, so I am hoping I will be able to reason with them. I know my body will ask for more calories than needed to maintain my regular weight, and I am willing to give it what I consider a reasonable amount, but to make sure that I provide food with the highest satiety factor and the least possibility of disrupting the gut flora.
