Week two of weight training wasn't nearly as painful as the first. I'm focusing mostly on my thighs and arms, because those are the two areas I feel need the most help. I'm happy to say that for the first time in my life I don't feel like I have such big "man calves" any more.

Today, I thought I would share something cool that I learned about myself recently. For as long as I can remember, I have had hearing problems and even had tubes in my ears when I was a child. As a teen, the hearing loss was mostly in my left ear, and it was just something I became used to. Finally, however, I decided to see my doctor who sent me to a audiologist to see what was up. The only thing is, that by the time my appointment came I could actually hear from my left ear.

I went to the appointment anyways to see what she could tell me about how my ears are working just in case the hearing loss came back. She told me that I no longer needed to wear ear plugs when I swim because the holes in my ear drums from the tubes had healed. Awesome. I always hated those. Then she performed a tympanogram and discovered that the reason I have difficulties hearing is due to an Eustachian Tube disorder. Normal Eustachian tubes expand and contract automatically, but for whatever reason my left one is deficient. I asked her why all of a sudden, after over ten years of not being able to hear from my left ear I finally had perfect hearing. She told me a lot of things could change the way my Eustachian tube works and started to name a few off. The only one that fit for me was, get this, weight loss. Apparently, losing weight in my face can actually limit the pressure on the tube and help it function better. Go figure.

So there you have it, just another unexpected benefit of losing weight. Who woulda thought that losing weight would help your hearing?
