ChrisComedy's Notizen, 06 Aug 14

Solid eight hours of sleep without waking up wide awake, a half hour of drowsing. Supposed to go to 93 today but then we cool off.

Body fat: 28.05 (dehydrated).

The Creatine arrived this morning. With Amazon Prime, if you get lucky, you get next-day delivery. I started Creatine loading (a rounded teaspoon four times a day for four to five days). One side effect of Creatine is weight gain as muscles add water. I'm thinking about moving the bathroom scale into the home office where it will be more accessible.

Bought an Ozeri Pro II Digital Kitchen Scale in Stylish Black, 1g to 12 lbs Capacity, with Countdown Kitchen Timer for $10. I've been looking for one for a long time at a cheap price. Why you need a kitchen scale - Lifehacker

Eleven minutes of stretching in bed, eight minutes on the Airwalk first thing in the morning to get the glycogen burning, 52 minutes of mat work: posture, flexibility, neck and trunk exercises from "Age Defying Fitness." Thirty-one minutes of Harvard Medical School special report gentle core exercises and stretches on the mat, 22 minutes of exercises on the chair from Harvard Medical School special report, "Better Balance." Cardio: 30 minutes on the Air Walk Trainer, 32 minute rowing, 600 strokes; 778 steps.

Still working on rearranging things in my bedroom and home office to make more space. Put another keyboard and several routers on Freecycle.

Good job, Chris! Is your next weigh in on Saturday? Good luck!

I think you'll really enjoy the scale Chris. I use mine at least five or six times a day. In addition to the precision you get measuring food to log here, there's the side benefit mentioned in the article of not having to measure everything with a separate utensil then put it in the bowl.

Yep, Deb_N. Two more days to go. Glad to hear the scale was a smart buy, Vickie 5966.

Where did you find the kitchen scale for $10? I've been wanting to get one again, but I've never found a digital one that cheap.

notlivingonramen, it was a temporary deal on Amazon (normally sells for $18.75). The AmoVee Professional 11lbs/5000g Compact Digital Food Scale Baking Scale is still on sale for $8.99. I'd give you the link but FatSecret seems to cut those off in comments.

Chris, do you have a specific area on Amazon that you search each day for deals? I noticed the other day your mention of the Misfit. I'd been looking at those a while ago but wasn't sure I was ready to pay $100. Your bargain of $20 was quite the steal! I know it's unlikely that they'll be on sale there again - but knowing where you find your bargains would be great!

Vickie 5966, Amazon has a link called "Today's Deals" on the front page to a page with a featured daily deal plus a bonus second deal. Then they have a list of hourly deals you can scroll through. Lightning deals sometimes show up on the Kindle lock screen and they also text you. These are sporadic and last until they sell out. I have gotten a one-terabyte portable drive, a Jawbone Bluetooth headset, and the Misfit Shine for $20 that way. Like you, I wouldn't cough up full price for a fitness tracker but at $20 it's worth the risk. They had an Acer Chromebook for $60 (normally sells for $200) one time but I was too slow for that. Lifehacker (and its sibling sites like Gizmodo, io9, etc.) has a page of deals every day where they scour the Internet for deals, not just on Amazon, but I've discovered deals on Amazon that way like the scale. I haven't figured out when they post those, but they're usually up by the afternoon. I get daily emails from Woot (owned by Amazon) and I've bought fitness gear, shoes, and electronics from them.

Thanks, Chris!

Thanks Chris! I need to add that to my daily quick checks bookmark pile! When you've tested the Misfit Shine, I'd be interested in knowing how it performs for you.

Vickie, the Shine has been stuck at UPS for almost a week. They keep saying it will be delivered today, and then they revise the ETA to the next day. When it arrives, will keep you apprised. I believe fitness trackers are in their infancy the way personal computers were 30 years ago. They will continue to evolve. They will track more and more measurements, get cheaper and cheaper, and become more powerful and accurate.

UPS is my least favorite delivery mode. When I order something I generally get 2 emails from the selling store and 12 from UPS. Just quit TELLING me about it and deliver the damn package! I do agree with your assessment of fitness trackers. A couple things attracted me to the Misfit - I like that it can be used in water and I like the varying ways it can be worn. I like that is has a kinda-sorta watch function. And I like the way it looks ;-) I probably need to get to a store and test the feel of it. I've tried husband's UP and just don't like the feel on my wrist.

Vickie, I will give credit to UPS. They at the very least leave a package inside at the bottom of the stairs or at best go all the way up the stairs and leave it at my door. Unlike FedEx ground, which will leave packages on the porch for any random passerby to snatch. This is the first time this has happened with UPS. I had a pair of dumbbells that got stuck in transit for more than a week in City of Industry, CA via USPS "Priority" mail that didn't get unstuck until I complained to the vendor.

Vickie, the Misfit Shine is stylish and does look like a watch, albeit futuristic. The disagreements between the Fitbit vs. the UP fans almost comes across like a religious schism.

It's funny Chris - my UPS/Fedex experience is just reversed. And my regular USPS mailman is great. Always rings the doorbell when he has a package to leave on the porch. As far as the Misfit looks, I do really prefer it to the others. And I really like the different ways it can be worn. Might not interest you but the necklace/neck cord part is interesting looking too. Not sure how effective it would be as a tracker worn that way though. Like Billy Crystal said though - it's important to look Mah-velous ;-)

Vickie, interesting... My USPS mailman is great when it comes to packages - brings them up the stairs to the front door. However, I can't get him to pick up mail from my mailbox. I've just given up on that. The Shine certainly looks good. I've read people complaining about how ugly the UP looks. We'll see what Apple comes up with the iWatch and how much of a fitness tracker it is.

Chris, IMO the UP is a little clunky looking. Even worse though is it just feels odd when on the wrist. I'll also be interested to see what Apple comes up with. If they stay true to form, it will have an elegant look. I've read they've hired a lot of top designers from various fashion brands. I also suspect though that the waiting lists to get them will be long. I'm always happy to wait for the 2nd generation of iThings. They seem to be easier to source!

Vickie, I like the Withings Pulse 02 - not for the looks, but for the features, including integration with the rest of the Withings ecosystem, including the scale. • Insights and reminders - Health Mate incorporates a Timeline with daily reports and contextualized advice to support your efforts. These Withings Insights help you to stay focused and motivated. Healthy habits are all about small specific changes to your daily routine: set reminders for these healthy tips. • Badges and leaderboard - Withings Badges are virtual milestones that reward your efforts and push you to excel yourself. Because competition is a great incentive, challenge your friends and family members week after week to be the most active. However, it's all too rich for my blood. As you say, wait for the second generation - or the third.

I just read a study that claims drinking 2 cups of cherry juice daily, over 10 days increases sleep by 90 minutes a night. It would certainly be a trade off- all those sugar calories vs. a good night's rest might be a tough decision.

Thanks for the tip, Lynch. I will give it a shot. I believe Kroger has cherry juice.

Vickie, have you looked at the Runtastic Orbit? I mention it because it's a watch and fitness tracker that's waterproof.
