Some of you may remember when I fell off a jetski about a year and a half ago while riding with my son in Louisiana. This is what they caught there recently.

Wifey, my son didn't catch this, someone he knew did. My guess would be it's about 12-14 feet long. I have no idea what it would weigh, but I'm pretty sure it weighs more than me. I assume there are places that process these monsters for the meat and the hide. I have swum, water skied (and jet skied recently) and fished in the Louisiana waterways my whole life, and I have never been threatened by an alligator, nor known anyone else who has been. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be cautious around them. They are amazingly fast, in the water and on land. Like with any wild animal, the best thing to do is to observe them from a safe distance.

Because of its unusual size, for a moment I did not know what I was seeing.
It is frightening to see such a huge crocodile.
No doubt, there is room for more than 10 of me in that crocodile.🐊

Sorry for not making it clear earlier, this is an alligator. There are no crocodiles in Louisiana.

He's a big one. I love gators. I was obsessed with them a few years back and went to Florida to see some at a rescue and in the everglades. They remind me of dinasours. Why was this one caught?

P&M, there is a hunting season on alligators in Louisiana because there are so many, over 2 million. Compare that to the 1.25 million in Florida, a state 24% larger in size. That monster was caught in a little lake called Three Mile Lake, and I'm sure it has lots of cousins of comparable size still there. I love alligators, but I also love being able to safely enjoy Louisiana's many waterways.
