I am sure I am not alone here, so I am reaching out to you all. the beginning of March I was diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer. Thankfully we caught it before it started to spread. After getting past not wanting to eat at all. For the first time I cam remember I stress/emotional ate alot of comfort foods. and gained 6 pounds. I have managed to get it back down to 210lbs. But I still find myself eating more than I normally would. Is this normal or have I lost my mind? I am sorry about how long this is.

I am a survivor of the same cancer - over 37 years now. Yes, what you are experiencing is normal. I was normal weight when diagnosed but slowly gained throughout my time in treatment - because I overate. I was told by a nutritionist that people with cancer can either gain or lose weight, depending on how one deals with the fear, stress etc. After finishing treatment, I was able to lose the excess weight and kept it off successfully until recent years. My suggestion for you is to concentrate on getting well. Be mindful of what you eat but that cannot be your priority now. Take gentle, kind care of yourself. I send you my prayers and hopes for a speedy, full recovery.

I would and have considered which behaviors support my health and which don’t and then make a choice.

Sending you healing thoughts. My husband recently had heart surgery and the wise nurse suggested eating organic liver twice a week, as it is super food full of high nutrition. I cooked it in bacon fat with onions and mushrooms, medium rare and it was great. Then pureed the leftovers with equal part of cooked green beens and a dollop of mayonaise to create a pate, which was also delicious. Just a suggestion for improved healing.

Just emotional eating and totally understandable. But food is the actual ONLY place we have control over, even if we think we don't. Get back on your plan and it will empower you. By the way, I now look more like the before photo...:-(

Hope you are recovering well. Emotional eating is my major problem. It is definitely normal. You are not alone in this.

There are two stress hormones - adrenaline which makes you not eat, and cortisol that makes you eat. Adrenaline is for short 'get away from the bear' type stress. Cortisol is more of a 'must cross this mountain to get to safety' type thing. Longer... unremitting stress. I have to say, 6lb is well controlled. and I'm so sorry to hear about the cancer but really glad it has been stopped. xx

Cancer is truly a scary thing no matter what it is and I think we go thru a range of emotions with dealing with it. When I found out I had Stage 3 Triple Negative Breast Cancer I could not eat becasue I was just sick to my stomach with fear. Then I started 5 months of chemo and eating was not enjoyable and stuff tasted bad. I got out of treatment and my appetite did come back and I actually gained most of the weight back becasue I was living and trying to do it all. Then life settled back down and the further I got out from treatment I decided I wanted to be my best and not on meds. I have it in my bio but I wanted to be healthy and fit and make it a lifestyle change and not have doctor's prescribing things to band aide the issues. You will find your self getting back to normal but it is like grieving and we are all different.
