Happy Monday

Effects of Irene are minimal for us except street is still flooded and trees are still down in the street, at least we do have power while over half of our town does not. I hear chain saws going outside so clean up has begun. Hope all my friends up in Vermont are safe and sound, massive flooding up there which was so unexpected.

Checked out my gardens this morning and after howling winds last night probably around 60-70 mph it seems all my wonderful basil plants are snapped off. So this morning I already have made a half gallon of homemade basil pesto, a quart of garlic basil oil, and have a ton of lovely leaves drying to use throughout the winter. I had brought in some of my smaller plants indoors so still have enough fresh to pick. I'm going to try to maintain those throughout the winter, but I never seem to have luck doing that for some reason.

Not working today as everyone seems to either be without power or just unable to get there so DH and I are headed down to the park (if we can get there and the river didn't flood it out) to take our huge power walk. Will then spend the afternoon cleaning up the yard of all the debris. Will also plan out meals for this week to use up all the food we stocked up with that didn't get eaten.

Beautiful sunny breezy day today, I guess it's the calm AFTER the storm. Have a great week everyone.

So glad to hear you made it through Irene OK. You're so-o-o fortunate to have power. As for your garden, well I guess when life hands you basil, make pesto! Have a safe, drier week!

Got in a 3 mile power walk at the park today. Unfortunately, our park is right on the river so it was entirely flooded. Ruined 4 ball fields, tot park, swimming pond, doggie park, bleachers were strewn all over, picnic tables were found up in the woods, the pavilion was totally off it's foundation. SO SAD.....Was able to get in our walk and got a chance to talk to alot of the neighbors also there looking at the damage. We are going to have to have a community clean up day at least to get it back in shape. The town spent alot of time and money this year making improvements so it was just really sad to see all the damage. We are resiliant and will get it cleaned up!!

Hey Babs - glad to hear you are all safe, so sad about the damage to your town, but it sounds like you have a good community to get stuck into the clearing up.

Glad you and your family are safe, that the damage was minimal, and that you have power.

Hey Babs, just stopping in to check on some of my buddies! So glad you are doing ok, and that you're safe. Makes me think about Squiggs and obviously on a smaller scale, but still... and Laurie - she lives in VT... haven't seen her online yet... take good care of yourself! Be Blessed. Much Love.

Hi Babs I'm glad you are ok, I hate hurricanes and I can relate to the flooding deal. Good job on getting the walk in, and I hope everything gets back to normal there soon!
