I'd like to have a big garden with lots of veggies, but I'm being practical. If this thrives maybe I'll plant something more 🤗😁

I think I’m skipping gardening this summer but I hope you plant and post more plant pics. I love watching them grow.

Good job :)

I am sure you are much better at it than I am Moko, but I did buy a little basil plant and a lavender plant. I planted figs a few years ago but they haven't produced a thing. Need more bees to pollinate I think

Thank you Laine! So far so good! 😊

I killed off my solitary lavender plant. We do have the right type of soil for lavenders but our soil runs in definite streaks and where I could plant it was not good for it. Might try a big pot next.

Windy Day— it is not bees that pollinate figs it is wasps. A friend had a great fig tree and I was always thrilled to get tons from him. Then one year he had nothing. I asked him if he had had an exterminator out to the house, he said he had — they came and cleared out a wasp nest that he found. It was a couple of years before he had figs again.

Kenna, I did not know that! Well I will remember that. I planted these, a Brown Turkey and a Celeste variety, prolly 4 years ago and nothing. Maybe one year I will be surprised. I hope so, bc we love figs. You are very lucky!

That's my plan this year, Gopher. Containers. Less weeds and easier on my back. What kind of soil for lavender? Sandy maybe? My soil is kind of loamy. Maybe add a bit of sand.

Didn't want to misdirect you since we may live in different areas. I used soil that had a deceptively high clay content but looked dark and loamy. From google: "A sandy loam, well-drained soil with a pH between 6.5 to 8 is ideal. If the pH is too low, add lime when planting to boost the alkalinity." I'm going to do a couple large pots and buy one bag of specially-for lavender and mix it 1:1:1 with local loam and sand.

Ive never checked soil ph before. I wonder if baking soda would do the same thing as lime? I only have the one small plant. I sure would like for it to do well. Also my basil plant. That is my all time favorite herb, I use it in almost all my cooking.

Windy I bought a gizmo that was supposed to monitor pH, moisture, and something else but it was worthless. Sorry, I know nothing about the soda idea. I am not 'invested' enough to worry about pH except on my hydrangeas that I want to get turned blue so am amending the soil with commercial product. Yes to basil! My lemon basil was overrun by spearmint and died out but grand daughter planted a huge herb bed last year so may try again myself after seeing hers. With the right herbs, you can make almost anything taste good!

I agree, Gopher about the herbs! And Basil is my all time favorite. But to be honest, I love them all. Im going to try this year... harder. LOL. Good luck! Post pics if you do!
