I refuse to weigh in today! I'm just tired of the gaining and feeling hungry all the time. I thought that signing up for this 10 k would help me drop the weight but that is not happening.
Work is very stressful. Not getting out for lunchtime runs. I keep saying that I'll go home and run on the treadmill or do some kind of workout but I get home and I'm hungry so I eat. And then I clean up and then I sit on the couch and I very will know that I could stretch or do something but I don't want to. I tell myself that it's getting close to 8 o'clock and time to get my son ready for bed. And then I think soon it will be spring and I get outside and I'll be more active. I thinking of 'soon, soon', instead of 'just do it now'!!
I use to do a lot of work helping my parents with the farm but that is all different this year. There are only 11 cows and not much to do. I miss the physical workouts that I used to get like moving hay and straw. SIGH!!!

Any motivation tips?

Sorry to be a downer buddies :(

Hmmm - I know what you mean about sitting on the couch and losing motivation. I don't know if you drink wine with dinner (I did) and found that my motivation would go out the window after a glass. Also, I went back to work in October and gained 20 lbs in 2.5 months - ouch. And it was certainly partly due to sitting on the couch after dinner. Thankfully, I'm off of work again and can workout during the day - but that doesn't help you... I was told that losing weight is 80% food intake and 20% exercise. Don't know if that is accurate, but maybe more protein and fat and fewer carbs will help with the hunger part. In any event, I wish you luck in getting your mojo back!

If anyone has seen my comments around the forums, i'm not a cheerleader when not warranted, and sometimes people need a shot of reality. Weight loss is 100% diet, exercise is great, but completely unnecessary for weight loss. "Frustration is borne out of unrealistic expectations". Your diet is setup to gain weight, period. 1. You're feeling hungry all the time because you eat excessive amounts of carbohydrates. Carb have 4 calories per gram, or 4 calories worth of energy per gram, so does protein, while fat has 9. When you eat more fat your energy lasts longer and you feel less hungry over a longer period of time. Why are you gaining weight? You eat carbs...sugar is absorbed into the blood stream...blood sugar spikes....insulin is released.....insulin removes sugar from the blood and stores as fat. You cannot do enough exercise to offset the carbs you're eating. People react differently to the same foods that are incoming, some are more insulin sensitive than others. Yes its frustrating, but when you haven't set your self up for success, what other outcome is there. When you spike insulin with incoming sugars you flip from fat burning to fat storing, and your diet is setup to store fat all day long. Take a hard look at your diet...where are your carbs coming from. You should look to be at least <50gms net carbs for the day. You have a sugar addiction, each meal has a high dose of sugar incoming. Carbohydrates have zero use for fueling the body....zero, yes they taste great, they're designed to...but you have zero need for them. There's a lot more to be said, but most of it is on your end in changing your diet, that is where the motivation is...are you motivated to change it?

I know you're a runner, but it doesn't always have to be a run. Maybe it would be easier to get motivated if you commited to a walk after dinner outside or on the treadmill. You're tired, you're stressed and your lack of motivation is understandable. Maybe after meeting the smaller commitment of a walk it might be easier to commit to a more intense workout. A calorie is a calorie, we don't care how you burn it. You'll feel better. Hunger is a beast. Best of luck buddy, I'll be thinking of you and sending motivational vibes your way :)

Hang in there Aggie95. You certainly have a full day with work, a home, child(ren) to care for. We continue to root for you. SMILES!

When it comes to running, women who run for weight loss are fighting an impossible battle, massive hormonal changes for one...but most importantly, you train your body to run further and become more efficient in its use of calories. Why would you do that? if you are running distance because you love to run..then great, but it won't help you lose weight. To lose weight by running, you need to be wasteful of energy reserves, not conservative...i.e., you need to sprint more than you jog, put your foot on the gas and not coast....

I agree that lifting weights is more effective than running. Maybe that is why you were doing better last year when there was more physical labor at the farm.

Hi Aggie, I'm dropping in to heartily endorse mahjohn's comments. I've been following the Low Carb/High Fat (LCHF) regimen for years. Unfortunately, at 75 (and lacking walking/swimming during winter months), tend to binge occasionally. When I hit an unwanted weight, I simply go on LCHF for a couple of weeks and voila, instant weight loss. For example, on (Tue) 9 Feb, following the annual post-birthday binge, I shot up to 201. Restricting carbohydrates to around 15 per day (sometimes less), a steady weight loss (and accompanying feeling of well-being) brought me down (9 days later) to 193, where I have "plateaued" until a day or two more, when I will shed another. From a health standpoint, I can vouch for, not only the benefits of weight loss, no hunger pangs ( these only resume on Day 2 of binges, when carbs are introduced). If LCHF looks scary (since it probably contradicts everything learned so far about diet and exercise), I'll give you an example of a typical low-carb breakfast. I have an egg allergy, so those are out for me, but here's a sample breakfast on LCHF (Eggs, bacon, coffee or tea, cream in your coffee if you wish, even steak, if you're so inclined). The trick is to exclude carbs: anything white, like sugar, flour, potatoes, rice, etc. The INet is chock full of recipes and info on low carb approaches: Atkins, South Beach, etc. Do yourself a really big favour and check it out; better still, try it for a week, your hunger pangs will disappear and you'll shed 3-5 pounds or more. Best regards, and Good Luck

Fyi.... Today is Saturday morning, had dinner of pan seared salmon, edamame and mushrooms sauteed in butter. Breakfast is a couple cups of coffee, then off to the gym... Heavy weights and eat around 1pm... Typical Saturday.

Thanks everyone for the support. I will definitely look into reducing my carb intake. But I also need to get into do some exercises like squats, pushups, planks, etc like I use to all the time after my lunch time runs. Those exercises have fell off due to time restrictions. (we only get a 1/2 hour lunch break). Again thank-you all for your support. It's the best part of being on FS!!

Aggie, it is possible that the hunger is really stress from the new job situation? If so, maybe the motivator is "gotta eliminate some of this stress with some movement" Doing ANYthing on your lunchbreak may help. May not be a long run...just a quick powerwalk to blow off some steam and re-energize yourself.

30 min break can't really get changed, exercise, and change back...as Vickie says...go for a powerwalk....take the stairs down and up...walk at a brisk pace, hard to hold a conversation. This is how stress drives you eat. Stress raises Cortisol...Cortisol dumps sugar into the bloodstream...Once the stressful time has passed, your brain is signaled to prompt you to eat high carbohydrate foods to replace your glucose stores. Stress relief is not about mental exercises...or deep breathing, it requires physical exercise or one sort or another..

When I sit too long my watch tells me to stand up! Lol. Anyway, I thought you were supposed to gain weight when training anyway? And I thought you HAD to train for a 10k? I've never done one so just speaking of hearsay.

holy smokes am I with you! I've got to get miles in for a 1/2 marathon that truthfully I will probably have to waddle through in May, and yesterday instead of running or working out, i just wanted to huddle in and eat my feelings. (my work and kids and life is really stressful right now too) don't get yourself down. Forget yesterday and instead start a new day and start by lacing up your shoes and walking out the door. You can do it!
