I'm taking the challenge but at the rate I'm going right now I'm going to fail.. One week on the LCHFIF and I want to lick the tv screen when I see a pizza commercial.... I need to pound the DEFICIT part into my brain... 😖

My new secret for doing a serious LCHF fast is Dill Pickles. Lots and lots of dill pickles. They fill me up and should help with the not-enough-fiber problem. I hope.

suzytrws it is not only possible to eat less than 5 carbs a day it is very beneficial...my health has improved in two months, both weight, energy, blood pressure normal today and my blood sugar is practically normal now..medicine was unable to get me down below 8 or 9...from 20.5...two years unable with medicine and exercise...below 6.1 is normal ...look at my food log if you are having a hard time believing... i never give up that is why i started the challenge 5 carbs or less in 3 weeks...i know most can't achieve it but if they try hard and come close to 5 carbs each day just think of the possibility's they will be more knowledgeable of how to do LCHF correctly...not every body will do it and not every body can do it. for the ones that can come close the rewards will be great.

Just for clarification -- are you guys talking about 5 percent of daily calories froom carbs? 5 grams of sugars? -- 5 grams of net carbs? -- or 5 grams of total carbs for the whole day? IN ascending order of difficulty....

James I think he means 5 carbs and like you, pickles have really helped me get through some challenging moments! One pickle is about 1 carb so the only real way I think you eat that few carbs is to be 100% carnivore plus coffee with butter or coconut oil. Dairy also is at least 1 carb a serving usually. I dont eat meat so 3 weeks of seafood can be expensive.

Oops! Just read in his post that its 5% carbs not 5 carbs.

Fact: Your body has zero requirements for exogenous carbohydrates...none. Any glucose it needs it will produce. Not to say they aren't tasty, but what do you really need? If your goal is to regain your health as quickly as possible by dropping blood sugar, reversing your Type II Diabetes, lowering Triglycerides....you want..err'...you need this plan. @Jamesmagruder, bad plan you have there....here's why. It is not a question of feeling "full", that is only part of it. When you cut our your carbohydrates, you must have sufficient fat and moderate protein, if not, you will be both hungry and weak. The fat portion will give you 2x more energy load than from protein or carbs.

I'm not talking about eating nothing BUT pickles. For example, picking a good day about the middle of my last attempt at Keto, on Jan 21 I ate 180 grams of fat, 35 grams of protein; total carbs 30 gr, net carbs 20 gr, sugars 10 grams. The next morning my blood ketones were at 1.7 and fasted glucose was at 76. My issue with KETO was not hunger, exactly.... it was that sometimes I just wanted to eat something that wasn't cream cheese or olive oil. SO; pickles.

There are 4gms of Sugar per Teaspoon. 4 teaspoons = 16gms of carbs. For comparison, Orange Juice has 35gms of Sugar, a can of Coke 39gms.

@Kristigarrett - Add a tbsp of unsalted butter (try to aim for a grass fed butter like Kerrygold) and a tbsp of coconut oil to your coffee. Then blend it in a blender or with a Ninja. The trick is the blending part. It is actually very good and it will help to cut out food cravings. I drink it every morning. It comes out almost like a latte or like you have added creamer to it. It is very creamy.

You can also google the recipe.

I use a stick blender...easier/quicker cleanup. Start with just the butter for a few days, see how you like it...then add the Coconut Oil if you want...or not.

I put coconut oil in my coffee this morning and I was busy all day! Lol I used it in my tea four times a day in the past, but stopped doing that. I need more cals throughout the day so the 120 in the oil seems to help in that area plus others. 😉 i just plop the tbls in the coffee stir and drink. But, I'm used to it.

5 Carbs or less?! What the? What do you eat that doesn't have carbs - air? I really need an education. Guess I should check out this challenge and join. Carbs are my culprit.
