So I am very Happy that I got a Gym Membership for my birthday ....But now I need some advice. I don't want to over do it and hurt myself and I do not have the money for a personal trainer so any suggestions on how to start a good routine would be helpful .

start slow so you don't hurt yourself. go to self magazine or shape magazine and look up the elliptical workouts or the cardio. build in strength training with low weight or resistance bands. You might also just ask the personal trainers at your gym for some advice, they might write you up a workout that you can do on your own. DOn't be afraid to try out some classes too, to really figure out what you enjoy. Good luck!

Usually you can ask advice from a staff member without having to have a personal trainer walk you through everything everytime you are there. Stop by the office and tell them exactly what you said here. I'm sure they can give you some pointers.

At my gym there was a free orientation with a trainer when we signed up. You should ask for one. There are definitely a billion different routines you could do, so to help you narrow it down, what are your fitness goals apart from fat loss? And please don't say you're afraid of getting bulky because too many women do & they are sadly misinformed. There has been quite a bit of discussion about that in the forums lately, so hopefully you haven't missed it. I'll add that I applaud your comment about not wanting to overdo it & hurt yourself...that's also a common mistake, starting an exercise program with the mentality of making up for lost time. I worked my way up gradually & over time I've been able to make a great deal of progress.

Honestly my biggest fitness goal it to help regain some of my health I am not trying to look like I am 18 again or anything like that I just want to lose weight to live better for myself and being able to be active with my children. If I had one thing I wanted to work on aside from my belly I would honestly say my upper arms I have always hated them so I would love them to be toned up and not have that nasty bat wing
