Well I found out that the reason for my back pain is caused by an increased curvature of the thoracic spine. They've told me the treatment is to undergo physical therapy. I've known that my posture is poor, and that it is difficult to stand straight, but I didn't know that it was due to a curved spine.

I'm admittedly a little scared as to what that will hold for the future, and I'm a little confused as physical activity is what makes the pain worse; how am I supposed to get better if the thing that makes it hurts more is the treatment?

I would think the physical therapist will show you how to work thru the pain to improve. I guess it would be like an athlete who has a chronic condition but with work they can perform. I wish you luck and keep us posted.

I am incredibly disheartened at this point. It is embarrassing to say, but the entire reason I've been trying to get physically fit is so that the opposite sex won't take one look at me and cringe. No one wants to spend their life with a morbidly obese man. That's why I've tried so hard; so I wouldn't die alone. Now I find I have a disfigurement that may permanently hinder my progress if not stop it completely. How am I supposed to feel? I am devastated. I honestly wonder why I have had to go through so much hell to find out that it was all for naught. It is going to take some time to adjust to the idea that I may just not be able to reach the goals I set for myself over a year ago. I have been dealing with depression and anxiety due to a number of factors, but I haven't felt this bad in quite some time. I'm going to go try to sleep on it and hope that will help dull some of the pain.

Stop there!!! Right now!!! A curved spine? SO what! You know how many people have a spine that doesn't curve in quiet the right way. You know you have the option of physical therapy. Take it!!! My physio is awesome. I had a painful shoulder for ages, when I saw her it all came down to bad posture. She manipulated it during one session and gave me some exercises. I am now pain free!!! Just look how far you have come! And you want to throw that all away??? Get a grip! (Sorry to be so harsh). Don't you dare give up.

D1srupta, I over extended my back when I was 35 and ended up in the hospital with severe back spasms. I had done it while at work so I HAD to see the Workman's comp doctor for an evaluation afterwards. He told me that I had degenerative lumbar disease and that I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 40. Don't take a single persons opinion as gospel, get another opinion, it is called Medical Practice for a reason. Do some therapy, it may help, but depending on the actual problem...in the event you have been mis-diagnosed (happens all the time) it could cause more problems. BTW, I'm now 51 and I am NO WHERE close to being in a wheelchair!
