My son, who is studying exercise science, phoned last night (finally) to check up on my progress. He cautioned me concerning taking in too few calories. He wants to see my caloric intake up around 1500 or my body will go into "starvation mode". I will waste muscle instead of fat. I never really considered myself a starvation candidate. BUT his statement that hit home was, "Your weight will plateau because your body will start to store more and more fat as it does not want to starve". Okay...this is difficult to trust because I REALLY want to continue to loose weight. In my own behalf I told him I was building muscle because I was finally exercising. His comment was, "...that's even worse". What to do...what to do?! Do I add calories so I can burn fat which seems so contradictory? Or do I eat fewer calories? I have to trust my son even though it is scary to eat more calories and possibly blow the whole goal thing. Life...it is really quite a road!
