GOOD MORNING BUDDIES!!! Hate me for my cheeriness? Don't blame you. There are two things I really do not like [actually there are way more than two, but we will go with 2 for the sake of this post] and one of them are early mornings. I am a night person. My favorite time of the morning is like 2 AM because I am still up. Getting up before the sun seems so wrong to me.

Second thing I don't like, as I have mentioned before, is exercise for the sake of exercise. Yes, I know I know when I spend 10 plus hours in front of a computer screen everyday, I need it and yes, while I really don't mind doing activities that require exercise, just don't get much physical activity as a graphic artist. But, common, exercise for the sake of just doing so always seemed like a waste of time.

The second part changed a bit when I found this cool park across from where I work. Lots of wild life and it feels more like hiking than exercise [there is a difference]. But now it is Springtime now, and as the Indigo Girls sang, "There is something about the Southland in the Springtime." That something is allergies!

I missed a full week of walking due to severe allergic reaction to the flora in my wetlands paradise. Went to the doctor Monday and she gave me a shot and a 3rd allergy medicine. She also suggested walking in the AM before the temps started to reach the mid 80s ... which will only get worse until October.

Did I mention I am not a morning person?

Well this is my second day walking at 6:00 AM rather than noon and I hate to say this, but I KINDA LOVE IT!

Completely different fauna in "my park" in the mornings than at noon. In the daytime, the Alabama Carpetbagger Goose (BKA the Canadian Goose) and sandpipers dominate the "central pond". At 6 AM, the geese are still in their beds sleeping and there are Mallards out. I have also seen orioles and a completely different type of goose. Solid black head and back, but with the white facial markings of the Canadian and white under belly. Will have to look that one up!

Another plus is there is a section of the park that is closed during the day but happens to be open in the AM. Turns out it is kinda city dump where they stack downed trees. I have more time and have upped my route from 2.5 miles to 3.1.

And it really does give me energy for the day.

Down side is, I don't get my mid day break from work. I will end up just fixing a sandwich and keep working like I used to do, but I can always use the overtime pay!

Stay strong, stay healthy, enjoy the weather.

"...There's no place like home and none more pleasin' Than the Southland in the springtime."

I am an avid birder!! And, would give my right hand (well, maybe) to be that close to the wetlands to see up close the birds you're seeing. So, please continue to do this and get more pics of the birds if you can! Actually, if you really want to give it a purpose you can do a birder checklist through ebird, and submit the data to Cornell Lab of Ornithology, because they really do use it to track the migration routes of Avians...But, even I forgo the check list when I'm out birding. I just have to much fun watching and observing them through my binoculars or up close. Anyhow, I'm glad you hopped outside the box and gave it a try!

I am not "a birder" but I do enjoy watching them. Whether it is the water fowl, the acrobatic sparrows or watching a mocking bird dive bombing the red-tailed hawk that got too close to the nest, they always make me smile.
