Nanette61's Notizen, 28 Jun 17

My first diet challenge will be coming up this weekend - my niece's birthday. This means cake. Is it poor form to turn down birthday cake? Should I accept a slice but then pitch it into the garbage when no one is looking? Cut it up to make it look a little messy, as if I'd had a couple of bites? Set it down on a table and walk off in search of a drink, and "forget" it?

I will not eat even one bite, because it is crack for me, and one bite will become 2 whole pieces before I can yell "Help!!!"

Suggestions, anyone?

Don't waste good cake that other people can enjoy! You can politely decline it. (You can always "blame" your doctor if anyone gives you pushback. Just say something nonspecific like your doctor has you trying out some dietary changes to address some health concerns, but that means more cake for everyone else!)

Tell others you cannot have sugar at the mo on doctors orders.. thus is what I plan to do at my only neice's first birthday party this Sunday We can stay off cake together 😉

Well, it certainly is true that my doctor has nixed all simple sugars, so I wouldn't be lying. I am half-hoping that everyone will be too into their own cake (and the B-day girl) that no one will be noticing what I'm eating. Good luck to you, too, Poppy!

Don't take it! It's not rude, it's about you. No need for excuses, just a simple no thank you will do. I usually help pass out the slices, that way I make sure I don't have to turn anyone down and get the peer pressured... just a small piece??? :D

I think the only case in which it is a little rude to refuse cake is when it's your birthday and someone went out of their way to surprise you... But even then you could say I will eat half a piece now and half tomorrow or tomorrow give it to someone else... At least this is what I did :D

I agree with everyone who said to turn it down. I'm like you... once I start with one piece of cake, I can't stop. It will hurt to say no, but it's good practice for the next time you have to say it. And you will wake up the next day feeling a lot better than if you do eat it.
