negative unsupportive comments deleted. your judgements you can stick it. maxie fasting and keto or low carb are all very different. people choose just low carb, some choose keto, others might include fasting and there is tons of variations of fasting. plenty also fast for medical conditions or for regluous reasons,or spirtual. i fast for few reasons. medical, mostly. feel free to look up 16.5 if, or 16.8 if alternate days theres countless variations. its not for everyone.

Yes I have heard many things on and off throughout my life....many spiritual ...some for an inner strength...to teach yourself to be more disciplined not sure if that was an ancient eastern culture ...but I know even biblical times speak of a fast. I'm going to read the research the article that you so kindly sent over to me and I appreciate your time and effort to assist me..thank you:)

Like many things related to food. There are a lot of misconceptions and inaccuracies from the past that still remain. People often confuse fasting with being anorexic. They are not the same, one is a choice the other is a mental health issue which is not a choice. Some people also abuse it as well but people abuse many things.
Fasting is not for everyone, and it is something is learned and practiced. There are several different methods for fasting, and each has some benefit. There is a lot of good info out there to read (also bad, it's the internet after all).
I have been fasting for several years with many benefits. It works wonders for my autoimmune symptoms. When my body doesn't have to spent all the time digesting food, which takes hours, it can focus on other things. Our bodies repair and recover while we are resting, sleeping, and fasting at nights. One thing that I've always heard but don't know how true it is, is that when we are sick we naturally want to fast, we don't want to eat anything nor does or body want to keep things down. They say this is the body wanting to fast so it can heal itself faster. I don't know if I buy it.

But it is all very interesting and some of the concepts of others can be a fascinating and learning experience..
yes anorexia is completely different I agree ..fasting is a form of a self control or discipline or to cleanse the body of toxins
I have read many post on here of people who are fasting are looking so forward to food to nourish on after their fast period...an anorexic person has an illness that is the opposite... they feel appalled by any intake at all.

Maybe tomorrow after i break my fast I'll comment deeper into my fasting experiences, results ive had. Fasting, isn't for everyone, but i have always had extremely postive results. Its a hard concept for some people to wrap their head around. Fasting isn't encouraging or creating bad eatting habitats, for me it helps me get some of my bad habits in focus

How often do you do longer fasts Keara? I did a 4 day fast last week and really felt great with it, and afterwards too. I usually do intermittent fasting, but want to continue incorporating longer fasts every so often. I listen to Dr Fung as well. He's so knowledgeable about fasting! And t_ann you're right. So many misconceptions out there. It blows my mind that some people think you're doing irreversible damage to your body by fasting! People all over the work have fasted since the beginning of time for many reasons. There are lots of benefits for it.

I agree with you Maxie4. I fast for spiritual reasons. And yes it gives the body time to rest and it gives me discipline also. There are a lot of other comments on here I totally agree with. Everyone have a blessed day.

to answer your question jenniferl12003. I just started bringing fasting back into my life. I use to IF and longer monthly 72 fast from 206 until 2014. stopped . Right now, to get myself back on tract, focused, I am doing a 72 hour fast once a week ( or that is my plan, while 16:8 IF Keto the rest of the week. I give myself one day a month for 'do whatever the hell you want day" I gave myself those days for holidays that pop up, or visitors, etc so I can partake mindfully with them without limiting myself from experiencing my time with them thinking about macros..lol

Math if I eat 3 meals a day thats 24 meals a week I am only missing 3 of those meals a week. thats would be 85 meals a month, with me only missing 11 of them out of 84. Somehow people think if I fast for 72 hours I'm doing myself harm, when in reality its a single day I am not eating and 16 of those 72 hours I am sleeping/fasting means 11 hours of awake I am not eating..out of 168 hours of the week.
