So, while I have done pretty well sticking close to my RDI and cutting out meat and dairy from my diet, I realized after a lot of reading and research, that I have simply replaced those things with highly processed "faux" substitutes. This has helped me shed a few pounds simply because they are ususally lower in calories, but I don't just want to lose weight, I want to be healthy. For that reason, I think I need to concentrate on eating cleaner. I love fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes and I want to concentrate on eating those things instead of fake meat and cheese and a ton of condiments. I was a vegan for a few years and I always felt so much healthier, but I now realize that I felt healthier because I was 40 lbs lighter and more active, not neccesarilly because I wasn't eating meat dairy and eggs. Looking back I realize that I had just replaced those things with fake versions, and thinking about that makes me feel kind of gross. This all came about after I ate a bagel pizza tonight with vegan "cheese", and for the first time I felt like I was eating plastic. Yuck! (even if it tasted good). So, moving forward, I am going to try and cut out processed foods and eat more whole foods, and stop concentrating on trying to catergorize or label myself.

Went over my RDI by about 200 calories, but I still feel good. I have a hard time keeping track sometimes because I tend to "taste" food while I'm cooking it for my boyfriend. And I don't mean that I eat it, but I have to occasionally taste it for seasoning ect. I know it only ends up being like a couple of tablespoons or whatever, but I usually round up in my food diary just in case. I also bought a new scale today, but I kind of wish I would have spent more on a better one. I was testing it out, and so I stepped on it three times and got three different weights (each off by like 2 lbs)! I know 2 lbs doesn't seem like a lot to many people, but when your trying to lose weight, a 2 lb weight loss or gain can be a big deal! I guess I will have to return it, and continue using the one at the gym until I can afford a really good one.

Yay, the scale moved in the right direction for another week! I was pleasantly surprised because although I stayed close to my RDI, I did have a lot of alcohol (lots of housewarming guests this week)! Still, I didn't over eat so that was a win. Honestly, the new house is pretty big and has two sets of stairs that I am constantly going up and down all day (cleaning up after the four kids), and I think all that climbing has helped too. I am just hopeful that the scale continues to go in the right direction!

So day one of no smoking was a success! I tried the patch and it seemed to make it much easier, and I didn't even pig out (actually stayed under my RDI). I did eat three lolipops, but hey it's better than smoking. I did come to work tonight and forgot to put on a new patch so we will see how it goes, but I think I am ACTUALLY READY to quit which makes a huge difference.
