I believe that my weight is declining. Actually today I'm less than 169, but that's what I'll list. [I began at 177, with fluctuations up and down, starting at end of Nov.] My daily weigh-ins vary terrifically, but the 170 or over readings are less these days. I'm working on the gastro diet but it's hard, even harder than usual, because right now I'm also not eating dairy products, in anticipation of a diagnostic "breath test" after 7 days of abstaining from milk products. So it goes.
I am looking at new clothing but ... except for a vintage sweater, I'm not buying yet. I assume that over time I'll be at least a size smaller, perhaps much more. So it goes.

Have been in contact with nutritionist for Gastroenterology practice doctors. Got some good answers.
I can eat more than I thought was recommended...well cooked vegetables are more tolerated than I thought they would be, unless it's in during a "flare." This is good news. Also, olives have few irritants unless there's a skin, although they're very salty (a negative).
Had a good discussion of appropriate cooking fats. I'm no longer going to use olive oil or canola oil for stove cooking...will substitute in coconut oil or butter which retain favorable chemical composition, unlike those others, during high heat cooking. Will continue to use canola oil for cookies, though--I don't think that's high heat. Also, will use olive oil and canola oil for salads, assuming that I might eat a salad. Won't use hard margarine--butter is better. To save on daily fat count in my limited 40-50 g fat intake, soft margarine is good choice for use with bread, etc.
We had quite a discussion of how fiber is digested, with the diagram of the stomach between us on the wall. Dietary fiber, if soluble, will leave the stomach in a wet slurry long before the insoluble fiber will, unless the latter has been in stomach quite a while and is processed to the point where it can join the slurry. Otherwise, insoluble fiber will move to small bowel in wads at a different pace. Although I am on a low fiber diet, it's important to have some fiber to prevent constipation and to add some good stuff to the system that need. It's possible to go overboard on attempting to eat "well."
Alcohol wasn't discussed, but I found it online in a discussion. Alcohol goes into stomach, is partly absorbed immediately, which will give me a buzz faster than other people now. Then, the rest will just chug around with the rest of the slow moving food. It will not help speed up anything and may add to the delayed digestion.

I can't think what to write. Christmas, A.L. from Alaska, Reb from Duluth, Carol from blocks away, Mom from her apartment, and massive clot in the plumbing system. I keep thinking "Personal Placidity! Personal Placidity!"

Actually, the scale shows more loss, but I decided this is probably realistic to record.
Was in Florida staying with relatives for family event; had to be very disciplined but I did well. Exercise is the hard one--I mostly did walking in neighborhood, food prep and cleanup and housekeeping, and walking on trails; nothing very vigorous.
Stress adds variables that I can't explain and it can mess up everything. My mantra: "Personal placidity, personal placidity, ... " Important to move away from all food that is out for nibbling. Also important not to feel martyred. I enjoyed picking out local Florida fish & prawns for my meals, prepared with almost no fats.
Watching others eat foolishly is a good lesson. It's so obvious when you watch as an observer, from after-church get-together with "a few sweets" to between meals grazing to the disappearing leftovers once in the refrig to disappearing large bowl of food during meal as relatives take seconds and thirds, whole platefuls. Looking into the wastebasket I saw lots and lots of food wrappers, discarded after someone ate alone and in secret.
Now that I'm home, I have to decide what holiday foods I will purchase and serve. No one in my family needs empty calories. Sentimental associations with family foods cannot be allowed to be rationale for unwise food purchases. We're all grownups in the family--skip the candy canes, etc. There were greenish pineapples on special in the store--I've bought two and they're going to be wonderful as a treat next week when they're riper.
Cheese is my favorite food. I've decided "life is too short to eat crummy cheese" and so I've cut out "gratuitous cheese" in salads, burgers, etc. Really a good idea--there is so much crummy cheese in American diets. I asked for a plain hamburger at the fast food restaurant and it was only $1--but not even on the overhead menu. I could have bought one or two more and had better nutrition than if I'd ordered the "loaded" burgers from the sign.
Have bought some small pieces of really good cheeses at a specialty market. I will put them out on a cheese and fruit board at Christmas and when they're gone, they're gone. No need to oversatisfy the most eager eater.
