Yes. But he had a prior heart condition.

Did he consume vegetable oils before the heart attack?

Yes, I do. I know quite a few people that lived extremely healthy lives and died of cancer or heart issues. So my philosophy in life is enjoy it while it lasts, and consume everything in moderation.

Dusty— absolutely. Many people. Genetics is a significant player in heart disease. If you have a bad family history of heart related deaths amongst normal weight family members, it would behove you to have early evaluation and regular followup with your doctor. That goes for your children as well. Childhood obesity has become a staggering statistic— couple that with a genetic issue is leading to so many cardiac related deaths in the pediatric population. So sad.

My dentist’s story was a classic example— every male member of his family, going back at least 3 generations died at exactly 42 years of age from massive first time heart attacks. He started leading a clean life when he got out of dental school and made the decision not to have children. He had that heart attack at age 42 but survived but with severely poor health afterward. He decided to take matters into his own hands, studied nutrition and received a masters degree. He went on to much better health and a good life. He came home from work one evening feeling great, talking with his wife. She went to the kitchen to check on dinner cooking and when she returned to the living room he was dead. 52 years old. He is actually the one who mentored me when I became interested in the subject of nutrition, health and obesity. I learned so much from him.

The only mystery is why so many people believe if you only eat healthy, exercise and maintain a good weight that you'll never have a health issue. Not that you shouldn't do your best, but a lot is not within your control.

I look at it like this, if God wants to take me to Heaven, so be it! ♥️ If it’s my time to go, it’s my time to go.

Just because you look trim & fit on the outside doesn’t mean that you’re healthy on the inside. What you eat matters. Steak and cake diet will eventually catch up to you. Stress is also a killer.

I weightlift 5-6 days a week, do cardio, eat fairly clean, and have a good support system. About 6 years ago I couldn't walk from bedroom to living room without getting winded. My heart rate was between 28-36 bom by the time I finally went to hospital. I had to get a pace maker and have done really well since then. I do have another heart issue that is being watched but my cardiologist says I'm doing well because I stay active and healthy.

Can't exercise yourself into immortality; it's still worth it though. And the earlier the better, because you can't shed arterial plaque.

Re: veg. oils... there's some evidence that seed oils contribute to heart disease. But the mediterranean diet (higher in olive oil and fish) lowers risk factors for CV disease. So at the very least it depends on the type of oil or fat... to me animal/vegetable fat seems like the wrong distinction to make.
