The pleasures of love are always in proportion to our fears. ~ Stendhal
I was letting this ruminate to see if I agreed with this and if so, why. I think it's correct. Fear keeps us from fully engaging in an attempt to protect from pain (whether rejection or injury). The thing is...if you don't open up and risk the pain, you don't get the reward of connection in the same way. Connection is what we seek when we seek to love and be loved. Fear insulates us from that which we want. We may not be injured but we also don't get the prize. It's like trying to reach for the goal through bubble wrap.
Fear keeps us seated. Fear keeps us apart. Fear says "what if I love you and you leave me?" Fear says "what if I get out there and can't get back home?" Fear says "Let's do that tomorrow."
Screw fear. On a daily basis, do something you're at least a little afraid of. Talk to someone you don't know. Take an unknown road. Offer a sincere smile to a stranger.
The greater the fear we overcome, the greater the prize. So maybe if we conquer lots of little fears daily, we'll get lots of little presents :)
Have a great day buddies...
