Another pound gone. At times I wish it would go faster. I read about some of the "Biggest Loser" contestents regaining all or part of the weight they lost due to resting metabolism problems after the show - overall the article was pretty doom and gloom and spoke about the inherent changes to the body that bring weight back on because people who lose weight burn less calories than others who have not tried to lose weight. They equate it to a battle between the brain, the metabolism, hormones, and our basic physical/chemical make up.

That is why I have chosen to change. Not just to lose weight, but to actually change the way I eat and move. It has to be a pemanent change - something I can live with forever. And so, it will be slow. I can't quit working or spend hours in the gym (3-4 hours a week for right now); and so I will never enjoy the huge weight drops of those on the Biggest Loser. Instead, my weight loss will be an added bonus to living better and taking care of myself.

In the past, I have done exactly what the article addressed. I dieted, met my goal, and then returned to my old eating patterns and habits. I have gained the weight back every time. Sometimes more than when I started the diet. This has to stop. I want it to stop. So, I am here to stay. This will be part of my new normal. Writing everything down that I eat or drink. Weighing every Saturday and recording it.

Great job! Lifestyle change - not diet.

I also read that article, hopefully a slow healthy loss will make it easier to keep it off.

I found that Biggest Loser article really depressing. But after doing the yo-yo thing a time or two I've decided to go with a philosophy that sounds a lot like yours. I plan to eat healthy foods in a healthy quantity and exercise a reasonable amount. I plan to do that for the rest of my life. I figure wherever my weight settles is my new normal. One nice thing is I'm 60 years old so I'm not trying to impress anyone with my svelte figure. I just want to be healthy. Age has its perks!

I totally don't believe that article! You don't regain 100 pounds because of low metabolic rate, common. They build tons of muscle on that show. Only reason for weight gain is too much in and not as much exercise. They have been tested medically and we all know how we gain weight. I actually had my metabolic taste tested and out totally stinks under 1000! Worth this FS website logging all my food for a few months, I can tell exactly how much I need to do to lose. Now, sticking with it, well, that's my problem lol. Hang in there, congrats on the weight loss, no matter what, you can't lower your metabolic rate that much, your cells are always burning. Some faster than others.
