Wow! I never knew how many carbs I consumed on a regular basis. I will do better starting with dinner tonight. Any tips for anyone who's overcome this obstacle would be helpful... Thanks in advance :)

Hi! I started a low-carb diet in February 2011. I was a total carb addict so it was tough in the first 2 weeks. I kept low-carb but would slip here and there...but always go back to low-carb. The past few weeks, I find I am eating more sugar than normal so I am back to strict low carb. Here's what I did when I started: I increased my meat portions so I was eating 4-6 oz of meat and TONS of low starch veggies. I was careful not to eat a ton of fruit because fruit has lots of sugar. I stuck with berries, mostly. Good luck!!

Using Fatsecret food journal really helped me to see what I was eating. My carbs were through the roof. Looking at your food journal, I see that the snacks were your major problem for yesterday. With a family of 6 it is easier for me to do combination meals. But, those meals I choose to stay away from because it is hard to count the calories. Also, try Greek yogurt which is high in protein and less carbs than regular yogurt. Maybe those little mini snacks for 100 calories would be good too. You are I are in the same boat. I am trying to stay close to 100 grams of carbs per day as possible. Of course, these are all reminders for myself. Just keep going!

Thank you so much for the advice mllekatie and straight path. Originally, I wanted to keep my diet the same so I could see which areas need improvement. Now that I know I have to pay closer attention to my carb intake, I hope to see more significant change. Straight path,I noticed that my snacks are my downfall on most days so I'm committed to cut back on them or change the type of snack. And mllekatie, your idea of increase my proteins and veggies is a great idea. This is why I love this site because I receive such positive and encouraging advice and support. Thanks and you are welcome Allsmiles. I will be taking mllekatie's advise as well. I know my dietician said that half my plate should be veggies. I also make sure that I have at least 2 glasses of water with my meals. I also found out that I had to slow down on my trails mixes, which I love. I was thought I was doing good by eating it but according the back of the bag, I wasn't. Consuming the whole bag or even half was not a good idea, lol.Also, try to make your own soup. I will usually make a nice pot and load it with mix veggies and nice no salt spices(I have high BP). Add some chicken for the protein and a slice of 100% whole wheat bread. What ever you do, don't stop. Keep going. Too many times I reached the top of the hill and then go right back to the beginning.
