A lot of week has happened and it's only Wednesday! It has been a good week, but also some bad. Allen's brother died on Monday morning after a really long illness. He was an Agent Orange victim from the Vietnam War and he lost mobility in hands and legs (but not mouth LOL) over the years, but more recently he got throat cancer and had to have his larnyx removed and a feeding tube, etc. It was pretty sad. Now he and Allen are together again along with their mom. Good God, three in one year. We are all kinda shell-shocked and beaten up a bit, especially Allen's 88 year old dad.

On lighter notes I had a really good session today and I was able to share my pride and happiness about finishing the 5k race on Saturday. I had a few other things to get off my chest and I was a lot more centered and a lot less stressed than earlier this week.

Tonight was our Tribes gathering and we had breakfast items on the menu this time. Not wanting to bring fruit again or the stuff I eat for breakfast that not many others would probably eat, I made a potato hash browns with both sweet potatoes as well as red jacket potatoes. It had onions, bell peppers and canadian bacon in it and low fat/salt chicken stock to finish it with. I added a little nutmeg and some Cayenne Pepper to make it interesting. I brought back a nearly empty pan so I guess it was well received! I will have that last spoonful for breakfast tomorrow.

I wanted to include a few things about my doctors appointments but I am pretty pooped so I won't ramble on tonight, we'll explore those avenues tomorrow. Have a wonderful week and peace to all.

Just recieved my offical stats from the 5k race Saturday.

Runner #125 Age 54 Melbourne FL Time/Pace 48:09.1/ 15:30
I was 58 out of 76 in my age group and 707 overall out of about 985 entries.

Good checkup today number-wise and I talked to him about the issues with tingling and numbness. Doctor is sending me for X-Rays on my back, he believes the problem may stem from an age related degenerative condition in my back which is typical and something to pay attention too but not to be alarmed about. The area of concern is L5 S1 to be exact. He would prefer an MRI but since I have no insurance I can't have it, too expensive, then I would probably be referred to a back specialist which does not exist within their sliding scale providers.

My only hope may lie in the Chiropractor tomorrow, which my Dr. also thought to be a good idea. I sure would hate to think my running days are over before they even start!

Peace.

Really great service at Nomad today, it's really strange for me to admit that church is actually fun again and that I look forward to going every week.

My deceased BILs son Sean and DIL Brenda showed up this morning unexpectedly for service today and it was a pleasant surprise, I haven't seen them since Allen's memorial service.

The unfortunate part of it is that they were up here from West Palm to go visit Allen's brother Larry, who was moved to a Hospice House today; it doesn't look as if he will be with us much longer. I feel bad for Allen's Dad, since February he has buried a wife and one son and now it looks as if the other son will be number three. Dad is 88 years old, and he has two daughters as well that thankfully are in good health.

I took my sister up there this afternoon and we stayed several hours, the facility is only six months old and it is beautiful. Only twelve beds and there is 24 hour care. The rooms are huge and beautifully appointed, there are even double french doors that open out to a screened porch built to accomodate the hospital bed, which can be wheeled out there for the patient to enjoy the birds and trees and sky.

My sis didn't do well at first because Larry looks so much like Allen laying there in bed and even makes some of the same facial expressions and sounds. We were all with her, and with Judy, Larry's wife. We will probably go back up there tomorrow afternoon after my doctor's appointment.

On a brighter note I was welcomed at church today like a returning hero, I got high fives and enough attagirls to keep to self esteem tank topped off for a bit, and quite a few hugs as well. I proudly wore my new shiny shirt that was part of my race package. It was cool and the design of the shirt has a very nice slimming effect on the side, maybe I'll take a pic and share it here.

Well off to bed with this intrepid runner, I must be rested to kick some further ass on the doctors' scale tomorrow!

Peace, and wonderful wishes for a fantastic week!

MY FIRST 5k

It was a spectacular morning, a beautiful sunrise and over a 1000 people in the race, and I didn't come in last!

Two of my fellow Nomads ran with me, they are experienced runners and they ran ahead, Steve went around again but Heather came and waited for me and then ran the last 1/4 mile with me to the finish line. 49 minutes, not bad for an old fat chick! Next year I will run as a slightly older (but still young at heart) and smaller chick with a better time! I did run 98% of the way, had to slow down to a fast walk twice for a minute or so to let my foot get happy again.

I got there early because I figured if I was going to do it, I may as well pack for the beach and I took a pic while I was waiting for my friends.

After the race they had muffins, cookies and fruit for us as well as water and gatorade. There were a handful of vendors there and I bought a T-Shirt from the Sea Turtle Conservation Society, who are the benefactors of today's race.

Went down to the beach and stayed for about an hour, long enough to swim and catch a few rays. Now I am home, and tired. LOL

I had just enough energy left to commemerate the occasion for posterity.

It was a good experience and now I will have to make myself a new challenge. I'll think about that tomorrow, said Scarlett.

Peace and hugs.
